Internet Explorer 8If you're running IE 7, enjoy safer, more productive surfing and working by upgrading to Internet Explorer 8 (link in Resources). You don't have to uninstall your current browser before doing that. You can do that by visiting the Internet Explorer 8 download page and following its instructions. The installation wizard will replace your older IE with the new one. You won't get all the advanced features that IE 9 provides, but you will enjoy features such as enhanced privacy, single-click access to Web mail and other helpful tools.

Alternative BrowsersWindows XP doesn't prevent you from installing multiple browsers. Although you can't uninstall Internet Explorer, you can try out other browsers such as Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera. After you install one of these browsers, it will offer to make itself your default browser.
If you agree to that, that browser opens any time you click a desktop link that points to a Web page or when any application needs to display a Web page automatically. If you'd prefer to keep Internet Explorer as your default, do not answer 'yes' when another browser offers to change your default.
